Weekend Group 1 Racing Preview and Tips
A huge weekend of racing this weekend headlined by the Group 1 Moir Stakes at Moonee Valley and the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes at Flemington. We will have perfect weather all weekend so get down to the track this weekend if you are able to. Both tracks should be rated a Good 3/4.
Group 2 Stocks Stakes (M) 1600m
Group 2 Stutt Stakes (3yo) 1600m
He’s Our Rokkii
Group 3 JRA Cup 2040m
Prince Of Penzance
Group 1 Moir Stakes 1000m
A tough betting prospect this one with many differing form-lines. Buffering returns as an eight-year-old and attempts to grab his fifth Group 1 victory and Petits Filous gets her chance against older rivals to snag her first Group 1.
Multiple runners will push forward and set a strong early gallop although you won’t want to be too far back with the short Moonee Valley straight. Buffering should be sitting in the first half of the field and is the clear class. Ball Of Muscle from barrier 1 will lead on the fence and will be right in the finish. Miss Promiscuity will enjoy a nice run behind the leaders from barrier 2 and the unbeaten Petits Filous won’t be far away.
Ball Of Muscle
Petits Filous is the short favourite at $2.25 and that’s a bit thin for me. Buffering is available at $7.50 but I’m interested in Miss Promiscuity at $31 / $7.30. That represents great each-way value for mine.
Group 2 Gilgai Stakes 1200m
Group 2 Edward Manifold Stakes (3yo F) 1600m
Don’t Doubt Mama
Group 3 Bart Cummings 2520m
Let’s Make A Deal
Group 1 Turnbull Stakes 2000m
The race to the cups continues this week with the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes. A lot of these step out against each-other again after battling in the Makybe Diva Stakes. No natural leader engaged so they won’t go overly quick. A few front runners have drawn wide though so it won’t be a walk either. I really liked Alpine Eagle’s run in the Makybe Diva and he’s my top selection in this. He may be a fair way back but he drops a lot of weight on his last run and hit the line very well. Weary has drawn better than recently and although he failed in the Underwood last week, I am happy to forgive that run with the long Flemington straight better suiting his run-on style. Royal Descent will push forward from his wide gate and will just go down late. After tipping Rising Romance in the Makybe Diva I don’t think he will be as suited here and he rounds out my top four.
No major movements as yet with Alpine Eagle and Royal Descent joint $6 favourites. Weary is currently $21 / $6 and that’s where my investments will lie.
Group 2 Blazer Stakes (M) 1400m
Girl In Flight
Both Miss Promiscuity and Weary are offered at huge odds and worth a go. If either place it will mean we lock in a big profit.
