Read the following 2016 Caulfield Cup Racing Preview for an overview of each runner and our best bets for the race. Jameka is the early favourite with Luxbet but he’s been drawn a tough barrier, can an outsider win the Caulfield Cup? find out below.

The Caulfield Cup is a Group One horse race which is a 2400m race. $1.75 million goes to the winner of the race, while the prize pool is $3 million.

The two main lead up races for the Caulfield Cup were the Underwood Stakes at Caulfield and the Turnbull Stakes at Flemington.

The Favourites

Jameka is the early favourite at $3.50 to win the 2016 Caulfield Cup. The runner has drawn a tough barrier at number 13. However, he has shown good recent form. Jameka ran in the Turnbull Stakes recently and finished second to Hartnell who will race in the upcoming Cox Plate against Winx. Jameka has won a race over 2400m once in his career. Nicholas Hall will be jockey.

Scottish ($8.00) is the current second favourite and is one of the many International horses in this field. The runner won its last race over in England at York race course in a 1799m Group 3. He’s nominated for the Cox Plate and Melbourne Cup so he’s one to watch over the next few weeks. Kerrin Mcevoy gets to ride Scottish at the 2016 Caulfield Cup.

Real Love ($8.50) is trained by Darren Weir and won its last start. At Moonee Valley last month, Real Love started as favourite and overcome a bad start to win by 3 lengths in a 2040m race. With a good start in this race, she’s a big chance to win the Cup. Craig Williams will ride Real Love in this race.

The Middle Priced

Exospheric ($9.50) is another International horse in the field and will be ridden by Damien Oliver. Exospheric will start out the 3 barrier, which over the history of the Caulfield Cup has produced the most winners (15.2% strike rate).

With the best win rate percentage of all the field (44.44%), Articus ($9.50) comes into the Cup from Germany. It last rode in an German Group 1 at Munich over 2012m. Before that race, it finished first twice and second once in its last three races.

Originally from Ireland, Sir Isaac Newton ($10.00) doesn’t carry great form into this race. In it’s last three races, the runner didn’t place and finished 10th out of 12 in its last start. Although the colt is training well ahead of the race in Werribee according to it’s trainer.

The Outsiders

Tally came third in the Turnbull Stakes (Jameka second) and at $16.00 presents a good value place bet for punters.

Sir John Hawkwood ($17.00) won its last race at Randwick over 2400m. He comes into this race with excellent form and will be ridden again by Blake Spriggs.

Preferment ($21.00) starts out of the first barrier which has the second largest win rate of all the barrers (13.1% strike rate). Hugh Bowman and Chris Waller team up again with this runner.

If your looking for another outsider to bet on, Our Ivanhowe ($26.00) finished second in this race last year. Dwayne Dunn will ride the runner for Lee & Anthony Freedman.

At $21.00 fixed odds, Tarzino provides another value bet and has fluctuated in the betting from its starting price of $26.00.

With a second placing in the Turnbull Stakes, Bet for Free is tipping Jameka ($3.50) to win the 2016 Caulfield Cup. For second and third, we’re tipping Tally and Scottish.
