Bigbash Finals preview, predictions and tips

Semi Final #1 – Perth Scorchers vs Melbourne Stars

Odds: Scorchers $1.60, Stars $2.35 (as of Sunday 22th January 2017)

Last Meeting:

Melbourne Stars defeated Perth Scorchers by 7 wickets.
Perth 7/134 (20 overs)
Melbourne 3/137 (17.2 overs)

Batting first at home, the Scorchers were reduced to 4-13 with Michael Beer taking 2-12 off his 4 overs. Perth finished with a below-par 7-134 and the Stars, led by Kevin Pietersen, easily chased down the total.

High Bat – Scorchers

Klinger has performed well again this season after a slow start. Shaun Marsh is a quality T20 batsman and scored 57 last match.

Michael Klinger – 256 runs @ 32.00. Sixes: 6
Ian Bell – 174 runs @ 24.86. Sixes: 4
Shaun Marsh – 124 @ 17.71. Sixes: 2

High Bat – Stars

For the Stars their two English players are your best choices for highest runs in this match. KP top scored against Perth last meeting and loves the big stage, he’s our best bet.

Kevin Pietersen – 263 runs @ 43.83. Sixes: 6
Luke Wright – 261 runs @ 37.29. Sixes: 4
Rob Quiney – 227 runs @ 37.83. Sixes: 9

Most Wickets – Scorchers

Andrew Tye is a quality T20 bowler and should take a few wickets. Mitchell Johnson has bowled well and will use his experience against the Stars batting.

Andrew Tye – 9 wickets. Best bowling: 4 for 22
Mitchell Johnson – 9 wickets. Best bowling: 3 for 33
Jhye Richardson – 7 wickets. Best bowling: 2 for 26

Most Wickets – Stars

Boland is one of the best death bowlers in the competition and will be critical for the Stars in this match. Beer opened the bowling last time they met and took 2 early wickets.

Scott Boland – 14 wickets. Best bowling: 4 for 30
Ben Hilfenhaus – 12 wickets. Best bowling: 3 for 38
Michael Beer – 6 wickets. Best bowling: 3 for 32

The Stars will take a lot of confidence from their win over Perth a few weeks ago. The Stars batting looks better on paper and they have the bowling to match. I’m tipping an upset with a close Stars victory.

Semi Final #2 – Brisbane Heat vs Sydney Sixers

Odds: Heat $1.85, Sixers $1.95 (as of Sunday 22th January 2017)

Last Meeting:

Sydney Sixers defeated Brisbane Heat by 3 wickets.
Brisbane 6/186 (20 overs)
Sydney 7/191 (19.4 overs)

The Heat batted first at the Gabba and posted a total of 6/186. Joe Burns top scored with 51 not out. Sean Abbott took 3-38 from 4 overs for the Sixers.

In the Sixers chase opener Daniel Hughes scored 85 off 55 balls and was the last man out in the 19th over. He was supported by Nic Maddinson (24) and Brad Haddin (32) in the Sixers important victory.

High Bat – Heat

Even without Chris Lynn, the Heat still have a strong batting lineup. Brendon McCullum smashed 64 in his last match off just 40 balls. Alex Ross has played a good supporting role in the middle order and Joe Burns top scored last time they met the Sixers.

Chris Lynn – 309 runs @ 154.50. Sixes: 26.
Brendon McCullum – 277 runs @ 46.17. Sixes: 16.
Alex Ross – 187 runs @ 31.17. Sixes: 6.

High Bat – Sixers

Daniel Hughes has been the rock for the Sixers at the top of the order and got his team home last time against the Heat. Henriques has been quiet since he scored 70 odd in the first match of the season.

Daniel Hughes – 250 runs @ 50.00. Sixes: 7.
Moises Henriques – 178 runs @ 25.43. Sixes: 5.
Brad Haddin – 90 runs @ 18.00. Sixes: 1.

Most Wickets – Heat

Steketee has bowled well in this years Big Bash, taking 13 wickets so far. Although, he went wicketless last match against Sydney. Swepson took 2 for 25 against Brisbane last time and will be buoyed by his selection in the Australian squad for India.

Mark Steketee – 13 wickets. 3 for 32
Mitchell Swepson – 11 wickets. 2 for 14
Ben Cutting – 8 wickets. 2 for 44.

Most Wickets – Sixers

Sean Abbott has been incredible with the ball this season and looks to be the best bet for the Sixers.

Sean Abbott – 16 wickets. 5 for 16
Ben Dwarshuis – 12 wickets. 3 for 25
Johan Botha – 6 wickets. 2 for 24

This will be a very close match and will most likely come down to the last over. The Sixers won already at the Gabba this season and I believe the Chris Lynn injury will hurt the Heat’s chances.
