Bet for Free previews the two best games of AFL Round 17, 2017 and we provide our best bets for each game.

St Kilda Saints vs Essendon Bombers

Odds: Saints $1.72, Bombers $2.10

St Kilda are into the top eight after four straight wins. They embarrassed the Tigers last week with a 92-10 scoreline at half-time.

The Bombers put their fourth quarter woes behind them with a huge win against the Magpies last week. They sit 10th on the ladder and need to win this for their final hopes.

Both sides are looking injury free after the weekend.

Last 3 meetings:

Round 16, 2016
Etihad Stadium
Essendon defeated by St Kilda 98-109

Round 9, 2016
Etihad Stadium
St Kilda defeats Essendon 109-63

Round 14, 2015
Etihad Stadium
Essendon defeated by St Kilda 52-162

Margin/Line betting:

The last meeting was just 11 points at Etihad Stadium last year and the Bombers were missing most of their top players to suspension. This should be a closer affair on Friday night football.

Total points:

The Saints have kicked 100+ points in the last three meetings and they kicked 138 points against the Tigers last week. The Bombers only kicked 82 points in their last match at Etihad but they scored 124+ in the two previous matches. We would back the overs.

The Saints are in great form at the moment and they have a winning record against the Bombers. Both sides like playing at Etihad and we’re tipping a high scoring game. But the Saints should win this by 1-2 goals and the value bet is in the 1-39 margin.
Best bet: Saints -7.5 ($1.91)
Value bet: Saints 1-39 ($2.25)

GWS Giants vs Sydney Swans

Odds: Giants $1.73, Swans $2.10

GWS have incredibly finished with two straight draws and they’re the first team since 1921 to achieve the same result. They’re tied for first on the ladder with the Crows.

Sydney have won five in a row and can potentially finish in the top four with a victory. They’ve lost three in a row against the Giants but they won’t get a better opportunity than Saturday night.

Toby Greene, Zach Williams and Steve Johnson could all return for this match but they will need to pass a fitness test.

Josh Kennedy missed last week’s match and he should be back for this clash.

Last 3 meetings:

Round 5, 2017
Sydney defeated by GWS 63-105

Qualifying Final, 2016
ANZ Stadium
Sydney defeated by GWS 55-91

Round 12, 2016
Spotless Stadium
GWS defeats Sydney 105-63

Margin/Line betting:

The two sides have never played in a close match from their 12 meetings. The closest margin is 21 points in 2015 at the SCG. At Spotless Stadium, the average winning margin is 54 points in 3 matches.

Total points:

The Swans have struggled to score points against the Giants and average just 60 points scored. The Giants average 14.7 goals per game this season

The Swans are superb form at the moment and the Giants are struggling with a long injury list. This has us betting on the Swans in this contest. But after playing in two straight draws, the Giants will keep this match close.
Best bet: Swans WIN ($2.00)
Value bet: Swans 1-39 ($2.45)

Other Round 17 best bets:

Cats vs Hawks

Best bet: Cats -13.5 ($1.91)

Power vs Kangaroos

Best bet: Power -36.5 ($1.91)

Suns vs Magpies

Best bet: Suns -1.5 ($1.91)

Demons vs Crows

Best bet: Demons +18.5 ($1.91)

Tigers vs Lions

Best bet: Lions +37.5 ($1.91)

Blues vs Bulldogs

Best bet: Blues +12.5 ($1.91)

Dockers vs Eagles
