AFL Round 15 Betting Preview 2017

AFL Betting Preview – Round 15

Round 15 has a tough task of living up to last week’s round of close matches. But looking at the schedule, we’re in for another massive round of AFL action. The Round kicks off with two in-form sides clashing at the MCG on Friday night football between the Demons and Swans. Saturday’s action starts with a crucial match between the Bulldogs and Eagles. Gary Ablett should play his 300th match against the Kangaroos on Saturday afternoon. Saturday night has two matches with top eight sides playing as the Power host the Tigers in Adelaide and the Giants face the Cats in Western Sydney. On Sunday, the Dockers and Saints battle for a top eight spot.

Bet for Free previews the two best games of AFL Round 15, 2017 and we provide our best bets for each game.

Melbourne Demons vs Sydney Swans

Odds: Demons $1.87, Swans $1.93

Melbourne upset the West Coast Eagles for the first time since 2003 last week and they’re the only team with four wins in a row at the moment. They play the red-hot Swans in a crucial matchup.

The Swans escaped with their second straight comeback win last week as they defeated the Bombers after the siren. They have a 1-1 record at the MCG this season and defeated the Tigers by 9 points in Round 13.

Melbourne have a few concerns after a successful Perth trip. Salem and Garlett both had hamstring issues. While Jack Viney has a sore shoulder but he’s a tough nut and should be right.

Sydney are injury free from last week and will most likely stick with the same team.

Last 3 meetings:

Round 13, 2016
Sydney defeats Melbourne 86-31

Round 6, 2015
Melbourne defeated by Sydney 50-88

Round 6, 2014
Melbourne defeated by Sydney 38-69

Margin/Line betting:

The Swans are 5-0 against the Demons since 2012 and the closest margin is 31 points twice. This will be closer than previous years and we would suggest a 1-39 margin.

Total points:

The Demons average just 39 points scored against the Swans in the last 3 matches. At the MCG, the total has gone under in the last two meetings. At the SCG last year, the total reached just 117 points. We would back the unders.

The Swans have the wood over the Demons lately as they matchup well against Melbourne. The Demons have a few injury concerns and face a 6 day break after travelling to Perth. Bet for Free is backing the Swans and a 1-39 margin as a value bet.

Best bet: Sydney WIN ($1.93)
Value bet: Sydney 1-39 ($2.45)

GWS Giants vs Geelong Cats

Odds: Giants $1.34, Cats $3.25

It’s first versus third on Saturday night as the Giants host the Cats.

The Giants are 10-3 and they smashed the Lions last week. They’re 4-1 in the last 5 matches played and can cement their top of the ladder position with a victory.

Geelong were lucky to win against Fremantle last week and they have injury concerns for this match. The Cats are 4-1 against the Giants in their history.

Josh Kelly missed last week but would of played if it wasn’t against Brisbane we’d say. Tim Taranto coped a corkie last week and could miss.

Joel Selwood will be in serious doubt for this match after suffering concussion last week. Tom Stewart is in doubt with an eye injury and Darcy Lang rolled his ankle against the Dockers.

Last 3 meetings:

Round 11, 2016
Simonds Stadium
Geelong defeats GWS 98-88

Round 2, 2016
Manuka Oval
GWS defeats Geelong 89-76

Round 17, 2015
Manuka Oval
GWS defeated by Geelong 42-69

Margin/Line betting:

The last four meetings have been a 1-39 margin and we think this will be the same on Saturday. The Giants have won three in a row at the venue and they’ve all been under 3 goals. The Cats have only won two matches by over 39 points this season and have played in 9 straight 1-39 matches.

Total points:

The last meeting between the sides totalled 186 points at Geelong. Both sides have goal kicking power up forward. Cameron leads the Coleman medal with 39 this season. While the Cats have three players with over 22 goals (Hawkins, Menzel, Dangerfield).

The Cats have serious injury concerns for this match and the Giants should win. However, we still think this will be a close affair as the Giants have scraped over the line at home against the Magpies, Bombers and Tigers this season. Geelong are 6-0 ATS and that would be the best bet for this match.

Best bet: Cats -20.5 ($1.91)
Value bet: GWS 1-39 ($2.00)

Other Round 15 best bets:

Bulldogs vs Eagles

Best bet: Bulldogs 1-39 ($2.05)

Best bet: Adelaide – Wire to Wire ($1.94)

Suns vs Kangaroos

Best bet: Suns 1-39 ($2.50)

Power vs Tigers

Best bet: Power 1-39 ($2.00)

Bombers vs Lions

Best bet: Bombers -43.5 ($1.91)

Hawks vs Magpies

Best bet: Any Other Result – Wire to Wire ($1.98)
