2018 Tattersalls Tiara – Preview and Tips
The Tattersalls Tiara is the last Group 1 for the 2017/2018 season. And ironically, Brisbane has turned on the sunshine as the fillies and mares fight it out over the 1400 metres $500,000 first prize.

A firm track is expected for the final Group 1 meeting for 2017/2018 at Doomben this Saturday. A 9-race card with the Tattersalls Tiara as the anchor race. Hopefully, the track will keep to a Good 4 or 5 rating; a vast improvement on the other Saturday meetings from previous weeks.
Some of the better performed gallopers are drawn out in the car-park, so that won’t help their causes. In particular: Daysee Doom, Missrock, Supercash, Volpe Veloce and Moss Trip. They’ll either have to come across early, or sit out the back and cut the corner when turning for home.
At this distance, those with favourable draws and who can race on the speed will be those that appeal the most. Savanna Amour is one that springs to mind. Gets away first early, and has the inside gate. The Victorian mare has assembled a good record, and if ever there is a chance to pick up a prized Group 1 event, this is it.
Proven filly Champagne Cuddles will attract all the money, and will likely start favourite in the Tiara. A good inside draw will help, though she’ll need to be on the speed, rather than come from the back. Corey Brown to ride.
Prompt Response has had a solid Autumn Carnival, running places in both the Coolmore Classic and Queen Of The Turf, plus winning the Emancipation Stakes. Can she break her duck in the Tiara? From a good draw (3), she’d be in my multiples for sure.
The Kiwi invaders Miss Wilson and Volpce Veloce should not be discounted either. Both bring reasonable form; the former a last start winner, the latter a Group 1 winner. Both are at long odds with Australian punters, and that will suit many down to the ground.
Shillelagh is also a Group 1 winner, but her form during 2018 has been patchy. I couldn’t pick her, but she’s the type of horse who will literally thumb her nose at you and win when it’s least expected.
Super Cash and Missrock both flew home for second in their last Group 1 races respectively (the Stradbroke and the Goodwood). As mentioned earlier, both are drawn out wide, but should command respect nonetheless. If not win and place bets, then multiples and exotics.
I’m picking Prompt Response to collect her first Group 1, with Champagne Cuddles a close second followed by Kiwi Miss Wilson.
Prompt Response, Champagne Cuddles, Miss Wilson.
At $31 for a Group 1 winner, my spare cash goes on Volpe Veloce.
