2017 Racing Preview – Queen Elizabeth Stakes, Sydney Cup, Australian Oaks, Turf Stakes – 2017

Race 6 – Australian Oaks

The Australian Oaks looks to be an open race with a number of challenges. We’ll start with the early favourite, Bonneval.

Bonneval – $4.00
Bonneval has won three straight over in New Zealand and has travelled to Australia for the Autumn Carnival. She showed no problems with a setup in distance last race (2400m) in a perfect trial for the Oaks at the same distance.

Harlow Gold – $5.00
Harlow Gold makes his first start over 2400m and came third in the Vinery Stud Stakes last week over 2000m. She was beaten by Nurse Kitchen by 1.8 lengths.

Nurse Kitchen – $5.50
Next in the betting is Nurse Kitchen, she has a 33% career win rate with 2 wins from 6 starts. She was unlucky to come second in the Vinery Stud Stakes and lost by 0.20 lengths.

Bonneval has the best form in this race and should win, Nurse Kitchen would be our next best bet in an exacta.

Race 7 Queen Elizabeth Stakes

Winx is the $1.10 favourite to win the Queen Elizabeth Stakes this Saturday.

Winx – $1.10
Winx’s record is impressive having won her last 16 starts. She is excellent in the wet – with a 3-0 record.

Hartnell – $11.00
Hartnell is the next favourite in the betting and has finished second to Winx in the Apollo Stakes, last year’s Cox Plate and the 2016 Warwick Stakes.

The United States – $15.00
The United States finished third and was beaten by Hartnell last week in the Ranvet Stakes. His last win came last year in the Crystal Mile. Damien Oliver switches to the stallion for this race after Ben Melham rode the last three.

We can’t see Winx losing this one.

Race 8 – Sydney Cup

Big Duke – $2.50
The Darren Weir trained horse is the favourite for the 2017 Sydney Cup. He has won 5 of the last 7 starts, including two seconds. Big Duke won the Chairman’s last week by 2 lengths to Aloft. He aims to become the ninth horse in history to complete the Chairman’s-Sydney Cup double.

Assign – $7.00
The next best horse in the betting is Assign who is coming off a win at the Sellwood Stakes last start. Assign struggled in the Melbourne Cup last year finishing 19th of 24, but he should perform better in this race and use the Cup as experience.

Who Shot Thebarman – $8.00
Who Shot Thebarman is the most experienced runner in this race with 41 career starts. He finished fifth in the Melbourne Cup last year and the 3200m distance shouldn’t trouble him. Blake Shinn will ride this Saturday.

This should be an interesting race at the 3200m distance. Who Shot Thebarman looks to be the best bet with the most experience over the distance.

Race 9 – Queen Of Turf Stakes

In the last race Group 1 of the day, Silent Sedition starts as the favourite.

Silent Sedition – $4.40
In the last 12 months, Silent Sedition has yet to finish out the top three in an excellent run of form. She won the William Reid Stakes last start and looks to continue the winning ways in this race.

Foxplay – $6.00
Foxplay likes the track at Randwick, recording 2 wins and a second from 4 starts. She won the Phar Lap Stakes last month. She has a career win rate of 33% and is ridden by Kerrin McEvoy.

Heavens Above – $7.50
Heavens Above won her first race of the year at the Coolmore Stakes four weeks ago after a long spell. The mare defeated Silent Sedition in the Coolmore. She looks primed for a big race.

Dixie Blossoms – $7.50
Dixie Blossoms is the next best runner in the betting and also loves racing at Randwick. She has a 50% win rate at the track. Although, she finished a lowly 13th in the Coolmore Stakes against some of the favourites in this race.

Heavens Above is our tip after defeating Silent Sedition in their last matchup and provides value at $7.50.
