Race 7 – Doomben 10000

Distance: 1200m
Track: Doomben

The favourite for the Doomben 10000 is Russian Revolution.

Russian Revolution – $3.20
Russian Revolution is the most sussessful runner in this race with a career win rate of 71%. He has an excellent first up record with 2 wins from 2 starts. His last start was a sixth placing in the TJ Smith Stakes, while he won the Galaxy previously. He gets a good barrier (5) and Kerrin McEvoy is aboard.

Music Magnate – $6.50
Music Magnate won this race last year and is back to defend his title. He’s 2-2 in 1st Up starts from 5 races. He likes the distance with 4 wins from 7 career starts.

Redzel – $7.00
Has excellent form coming into this race. he finished first in the Hall Mark and finished second to Russian Revolution in the Galaxy by just 0.2 lengths. His other start in 2017 was a second placing against English.

Fell Swoop – $8.00
Fell Swoop has made three starts in 2017 and looked good in the TJ Smith Stakes. He finished third in a quality field of Chautauqua and English. He’s coming off a spell and has a 1-2-1 record in 1st up starts. He likes the distance with 4 wins from 9.

Start Wondering – $13.00
Start Wondering has an excellent 1st Up record with 4 wins from 6 career starts. He’s a NZ trained horse and has finished in the top two in his last four races in 2017.

Counterattack – $14.00
Trained by Chris Waller, Counterattack has the lowest career win rate in the field (17%). He’s 2-2-2 in 1st up starts and has a 2-3-2 record at the distance.

We are tipping Fell Swoop to upset the favourites as his from looks excellent against this field. Our trifecta would include Russian Revolution, Music Magnate and Fell Swoop.

Race 7 – South Australian Derby

Odeon – $3.20
Odeon is the favourite after winning three of his last four races. He won the BM84 last ride at Caulfield. While, previous to that win, he finished 2nd in an 18 horse field at Morphettville. The only knock on Odeon, is the distance.

Netherfield – $6.50
Netherfield is ridden by Damien Oliver and trained by Mick Price. He’s 1-1 in 2 career 1st up starts.

Ruthven – $7.50
Ruthven has great form coming into this race with a few close losses recently. He’s finished second in three of the past four races and will look to go one better in the Derby.

Volatile Mix – $8.00
Volatile Mix has raced at Morphettville in his last two races without finishing in the top three. He’ll need to show major improvement for a chance at victory in this race, especially in the 18 barrier.

Rockstar Rebel – $9.50
With Brad Rawiller aboard, Rockstar Rebel is an outside chance for the Derby. He finished a close second at the BM64 in Bendigo. He has a 11% career win rate, which isn’t great.

Ruthven has good form and we think he can upset the favourite. Our trifecta would include; Ruthven, Odeon and Rockstar Rebel.
