2017 Racing Preview – Champagne Stakes, All Aged Stakes

Racing Betting Preview

Bet for Free previews the two main races – the Champagne Stakes and All Aged Stakes – at Randwick on Saturday, April 15, 2017. We provide an overview of the main favourites and our tips for all races below.

Race 6 – Champagne Stakes (1600m)

Invader – $1.95
Invader is the hot favourite to win the 2017 Champagne Stakes. Invader won the Sires Produce Stakes in a 16 horse field last start. He’s two for three in the last three races, all at Randwick. Accomplished jockey, Hugh Bowman takes the reins after riding his last two wins.

Whispered Secret – $4.80
Whispered Secret comes into the Stakes with two straight wins. She won the Fernhill last week, which was the same track and distance as the Champagne Stakes. She’s a definite challenger for Invader and presents a value bet for punters.

The Mission – $8.50
The Mission is the third favourite in the betting and finished sixth in the Sires Produce Stakes two weeks ago.

Eshtiraak – $11.00
Eshtiraak is coming off a three week spell and has won 4 of his first 6 career starts. He’s ridden by Damien Oliver which is an advantage. He’s unproven on a wet track which is the main reason he’s outside $10.

Invader is the best horse in this race and should win this comfortably. Our trifecta would be Invader, Whispered Secret and Eshtiraak.

Race 7 – All Aged Stakes (1400m)

The 2017 All Aged Stakes is an open race with English as the current favourite. There’s a lot of value for punters in this race. We start our preview with the favourite, English.

English – $3.80
English was extremely unlucky to finish second in the TJ Smith Stakes as Chautauqua produced one of the best finishes in racing history. English has an excellent record at Randwick with 4 wins from 9 starts. He also won this race last year against Black Heart Bart and Kermadec. He’s trained by Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott and Blake Shinn will be his jockey.

Le Romain – $4.00
Le Romain comes into the All Aged Stakes with reasonable form. Before finishing 15th in the Doncaster Mile, Le Romain had won 3 of 4 starts. He has finished second three times at this distance in his career. At the track, he’s also won 4 of 9 starts.

Voodoo Lad – $6.50
Voodoo Lad came fifth in the TJ Smith Stakes against English. While he rode second in the Newmarket Stakes against Redkirk Warrior after a 133 day spell. Voodoo lad has a 90% career placing record and would be in most punters trifecta.

Mccreery – $8.50
Mccreery is $8.50 to win the All Aged Stakes and came sixth in the Doncaster. He has a good record over this distance, having finished in the top three placings in three of four races.

Tivaci – $8.50
Tivaci has finished just outside the placings in his last two races after a 42 day spell. He finished fourth in the TJ Smith Stakes and fifth in the Newmarket Stakes. Damien Oliver rides Tivaci in the All Aged Stakes.

Redkirk Warrior ($9.50) defeated Voodoo Lad in the Newmarket Stakes, however he finished 11th in the Doncaster. He’s a horse that could finish in the top three.

It’s a tough pick between English and Le Romain as they both have similar form at Randwick. However, we’re going with English after his tough second placing in the TJ Smith Stakes.
