MRC Foundation Cup Day Preview and Tips
Back to Caulfield this week for a fairly uninspiring card compared to recent weeks. There has been some rain around Melbourne this week but a fine day has been forecast for Saturday. The track is currently rated a Good 4 and shouldn’t change going into race day. The rail is out 9m for the entire track which will favour frontrunners slightly.
G3 William Hill Sprint Series Heat 2 1200m
The William Hill Sprint Series for the mares continues today after Madam Gangster took out heat 1 late last month. There doesn’t appear to be a great deal of speed on paper so front runners should be even more suited. Vezalay from barrier 10 and Lesley’s Choice from 3 will definitely push forward. Along with Wawail from 4 and Griante from 11. Tycoon Tara was average at her first-up go at Moonee Valley. From barrier 12 I expect the instructions to be to push forward also. I believe the winner will come from one of those five. Vezalay wasn’t suited last start and still finished within a length of the winner. She was also very close in Heat 1 after leading the 3-wide line. Lesley’s Choice faces her hardest task yet but should go close with an easy run predicted. Wawail resumes and should find a perfect position behind the leaders which will allow her to finish off well. Griante was also wide in Heat 1 and she is a strong chance with an easier run. Tycoon Tara will go very close if she leads but I’m not fully confident she will after easing back last start.
No major moves early here. Vezalay is favourite at $3.90 and I have her on top but Lesley’s Choice at $11 is where the value lies.
G3 M R C Foundation Cup 2000m
Again I believe the frontrunners will be advantaged here with a slowish tempo being set. Kapour and Genuine Lad are the only real speedsters in the race and although both will start from the outside gates, they won’t have a problem finding the front with the long run into the first bend. Magnapal was huge in his last start win where he beat home a lot of his rivals here today. He will be able to take up a similar position in the first half of the field from barrier 7. Sertorius holds the track record over this distance and his first-up run in the Memsie Stakes was full of merit. If he goes forward this time he will be hard to hold out. Kapour will be in front at the top of the straight and will be right there depending on how easily he gets it. The United States gets his chance with the Banca Mo scratching and only just got beaten over the mile at Moonee Valley. I can see him getting home well but it may just be too late.
The United States
Again no major moves. The United States is the early favourite at $4.40. Magnapal is available at $6. That represents good value in my opinion but we may see better on the day.
Luxbet is offering a 300% first deposit bonus up to $50 which will give a total of $200 to punt with!
I’m not overly excited about anything here as you can probably tell from my preview. Lesley’s Choice and Magnapal are worth a wager but that’s about it. Good luck if you are playing!
