It was another classic Round of AFL action last week and Round 20 looks like another belter. The Round kicks off with the Cats and Swans in Geelong. While on Saturday, the Giants face the Demons. Essendon are 10th and need to beat the Blues. The Bulldogs should smash the Lions and keep their final hopes alive. While Sunday has three interesting matches. The Eagles are known for their woeful away performances and the Saints are coming off a tough loss at Adelaide Oval. The Tigers and Hawks go to battle at the MCG and the Hawks need to win. Then Round 20 ends with the showdown in Adelaide.
Bet for Free previews the two best games of AFL Round 20, 2017 and we provide our best bets for each game.
Geelong Cats vs Sydney Swans
The Cats take on the Swans in another, expected classic Friday night match. Geelong haven’t lost at home this season and they’re coming off a 65 point win over the Blues. They have a 4-1-1 record in their last six matches and they’re pushing for a top two finish.
The Swans lost by a goal against the Hawks again and they sit 6th on the ladder. They have injury concerns for this clash but they’ll take confidence from two wins in a row against Geelong.
The storyline is obviously the Dangerfield suspension.
Sydney have a number of injury concerns. Gary Rohan and Jake Lloyd both couldn’t take their place last week. While Josh Kennedy and Naismith both struggled with injuries during the Hawks loss.
Last 3 meetings:
Preliminary Final, 2016
Geelong defeated by Sydney 60-97
Round 16, 2016
Geelong defeated by Sydney 60-98
Round 19, 2015
Geelong defeats Sydney 95-63
The Swans have won the last two meetings by an average of 37.5 points. However, they have injury concerns at the moment and this should be a closer match on Friday night.
The Cats are 4-0 at home this season and the highest total they’ve conceded is 81 points. But the Swans have kept the Cats to 60 points in the last two matchups.
With Dangerfield on the sidelines, the Swans are the favourites. They have a great record against the Cats and they should win this. We’ll go with the Swans 1-39 as a value bet.
Best bet: Swans WIN ($1.85)
Value bet: Swans 1-39 ($2.25)
Adelaide Crows vs Port Adelaide Power
Both sides come into this showdown which shaky form. The Crows secured a draw after the siren against the Magpies. While the Power kicked a match winning goal with seven seconds remaining. Although, the Crows have dominated the last four clashes and they won by 17 points in Round 3.
For the Crows, Eddie Betts is most likely out and Brad Crouch will struggle with a cheekbone injury. Jake Lever returned last week and Kyle Hartigan could return.
The Power have Chad Wingard on the sidelines but reported no injuries last week.
Last 3 meetings:
Round 3, 8 Apr 2017
Port Adelaide defeated by Adelaide 83-100
Round 22, 20 Aug 2016
Port Adelaide defeated by Adelaide 94-109
Round 2, 2016
Adelaide defeats Port Adelaide 144-86
The last two meetings have fallen under 18 points and this one will be another close match.
The Crows average 117 points scored in their last four meetings against the Power. They also rank 1st in the AFL for goals (16.5) and the Power rank 4th.
The Crows have the wood over the Power and we’re expecting a close showdown, but the Crows get over the line with more power in the forward line. The value bet is Crows 1-39 but we think Port can keep this game within 10.5 points.
Best bet: Port +10.5 ($1.91)
Value bet: V Crows 1-39 ($2.15)
