Bet for Free previews the two best games of AFL Round 16, 2017 and we provide our best bets for each game.

Adelaide Crows vs Western Bulldogs

Odds: Crows $1.30, Bulldogs $3.50

Form:

The Adelaide Crows sit second on the ladder and they have a 3-2 record in the last 5 games. They only just beat Carlton last week and lost to the Hawks at home previously.

The Western Bulldogs were upset by the Eagles last week and they sit 10th on the ladder. The Bulldogs are 1-3 in the last 4 games and need a win against the Crows.

Injuries/Suspensions:

Kyle Hartigan is out with a hamstring issue for the Crows.

The Bulldogs are injury free and Robert Murphy returned on the weekend.

Last 3 meetings:

Round 7, 7 May 2016
Etihad Stadium
Western Bulldogs defeat Adelaide 123-108

Elimination Final, 2015
MCG
Western Bulldogs defeated by Adelaide 102-109

Round 4, 2015
Etihad Stadium Western Bulldogs defeat Adelaide 125-68

Margin/Line betting:

In the last five meetings, the margin hasn’t reached over 3 goals as both sides matchup well together. The Crows are 6-2 at Adelaide Oval this season but have never faced the Bulldogs at the venue.

Total points:

In the last two meetings, both sides have kicked over 100 points. The Bulldogs have kicked 100+ points in the last three meetings but they rank 16th in the AFL for goals kicked this season. The Crows scored 82 points in the last game at Adelaide Oval against the Hawks. We would suggest the under total points.

Prediction:

Both sides have patchy form coming into this match. The Bulldogs will be desperate for a victory as their top eight chances slim. They have a 5-0 ATS record and we would back them at the line. However, the Crows should win this as they push for a top two finish.
Best bet: Bulldogs +23.5 ($1.91)
Value bet: Crows 1-39 ($2.10)

West Coast Eagles vs Port Adelaide Power

Odds: Eagles $1.64, Power $2.25

Form:

West Coast are sitting seventh on the ladder and just held off the Bulldogs last week. They have lost to the Giants and Demons in recent home matches so they’ll face another challenge against the Power.

Port Adelaide sit fifth on the ladder and will be aiming for their first win over a top-eight side this week. They kicked poorly against the Tigers last week and will need to convert against West Coast.

Injuries/Suspensions:

Sam Butler is out with a hamstring injury, Nathan Vardy has a shoulder problem and Sharrod Wellingham has a hip issue. Josh Kennedy could return this week.

The Power didn’t pickup a serious injury last week and Jack Hombsch should return to the side.

Last 3 meetings:

Round 7, 2017
Adelaide Oval
Port Adelaide defeated by West Coast 87-97

Round 9, 2016
Adelaide Oval
Port Adelaide defeated by West Coast 86-94

Round 6, 2015
Adelaide Oval
Port Adelaide defeated by West Coast 68-78

Margin/Line betting:

The last five meetings have been well under 39 points so this game is shaping as a 1-39 contest. The Eagles have won the last three meetings by an average of 9 points. The last three meetings at Subiaco have been under 39 points as well.

Total points:

The Eagles have kicked 90+ in the last two matches and the Power have kicked 86 or more in those matchups as well. The Power average 28.8 shots per game and average 14.5 goals. The Eagles average 12.9 goals and if Kennedy plays, they’ll have better scoring potential. We would back the over total points.

Prediction:

The Power and Eagles have played in close games together in the last few years so we’re expecting the same on Sunday. Port kicked 12.15 against the Eagles in the 10 point loss this season and we think they can get cover the line here. But we would back the Eagles 1-39 in the value markets.
Best bet: Power +7.5 ($1.91)
Value bet: Eagles 1-39 ($2.20)
