West Coast Eagles vs Essendon Preview
Venue: Domain Stadium
Last Time they met: West Coast defeated Essendon 96-46 at Domain Stadium, Round 11, 2015.
West Coast ($1.01)
The Eagles will look to consolidate their position in the top 8 with a big win over the Bombers. Andrew Gaff is our pick for most disposals for the Eagles as he racked up 33 disposals last game against the Bombers. Josh Kennedy is yet to kick 5 goals against the Bombers in his career and this week we are predicting a big haul.
In their last game before the bye, Essendon matched the GWS Giants until the last quarter. Ultimately the better side won but it was an unexpected close game and showed positive signs for the young Bombers’ side.
Look for Zach Merrett to continue his 2016 best and fairest form with most disposals, he had 37 possessions against Fremantle this year at Domain.
Prediction: Eagles can’t lose this. West Coast by 63
Best Bet: West Coast -60.5 ($1.50)
Port Adelaide vs Richmond
Venue: Adelaide Oval
Last time they met: Port Adelaide defeated Richmond 94-59, Round 6, 2016.
Port Adelaide ($1.39)
Port Adelaide are having an up and down season in 2016. After thrashing the Magpies away from home, they followed up with a dismal performance against the Dockers in Perth. The Power are really missing a key ruckman with the suspension of Patty Ryder this year.
The key for the Powers success is tackling pressure, they’re ranked 2nd in the AFL while the Tigers are ranked last. Robbie Gray should make 10+ tackles this week.
Richmond were embarrassing in their first encounter against the Power in 2016 as they lost by 5+ goals. They have started to string a few wins together of late but those wins have only come against the likes of Brisbane, Gold Coast and Essendon. Dustin Martin is the key for the Tigers success, over the last few games he has willed the Tigers over the line with 30+ disposals and crucial goals.
Prediction: Two difficult sides to predict, Power in a close game. Port Adelaide by 9.
Best Bet: Port Adelaide 1-39 ($2.15)
Gold Coast vs St Kilda
Venue: Metricon Stadium
Last Time they met: St Kilda defeated Gold Coast 104-76, Round 2, 2015
Gold Coast ($1.92)
The Suns are looking better every week with a fit Gary Ablett and they gave the Hawks a bit of a scare in Tasmania. In the end, the Suns fell away for their 10th lose in a row. Gary Ablett had 40 disposals (25 contested) in a dominant display, look for the Saints to quell his influence this week.
St Kilda ($1.92)
The young Saints stunned the Cats last round, producing one of the best wins in recent history for St Kilda. Young midfielder, Sebastian Ross is having a breakout season and he is our pick for most disposals this week for the Saints.
Prediction: The Saints have the momentum and the Suns haven’t won for a while. St Kilda by 18.
Best Bet: St Kilda 1-39 ($2.55)
Sydney vs Western Bulldogs Preview
Last Time they met: Bulldogs defeated Sydney 77-73 at SCG, Round 5, 2015.
The Swans enjoyed the break after a comprehensive win over the Demons at home. Sydney broke the AFL record for most tackles in a game against the Demons. The Swans are ranked 1st in the AFL for tackles, whereas the Bulldogs are 17th. Luke Parker had an amazing 17 tackles last week, he is our pick for most tackles against the Bulldogs this week.
Western Bulldogs ($3.10)
The Bulldogs had plenty of time to ponder their performance against the Cats as they were out-classed around the ground. This week it doesn’t get any easier as they head to the SCG. However, last year in one of the games of the season, the Bulldogs upset the Swans at the SCG, 77-73. Lachie Hunter has been arguably the Bulldogs best midfielder this season and will look for another 30+ disposal game against the Swans this week.
Prediction: Should be a close game but Sydney are in better form. Sydney by 6
Best Bet: Sydney 1-39 ($2.05)
Carlton vs Collingwood Preview
Last Time they met: Collingwood defeated Carlton 99-84, Round 7, 2016
The Blues have lost their last two games after a promising start to the season. Without injured captain Marc Murphy, the Blues are lacking his leadership and ball winning ability in the midfield. In game 200 last week, gun midfielder Bryce Gibbs had 29 disposals and 9 tackles in a losing side.
The Magpies produced one of their best efforts of the season last Friday Night as they smashed the Dockers by 48 points. Adam Treloar has been a shining light at the Pies this season and should rack up another 30+ disposals again this week.
Prediction: The Magpies should be too strong for the Blues. Collingwood by 10
Best Best: Collingwood 1-39 ($2.35)
Melbourne vs Adelaide Preview
Last Time they met: Adelaide defeated Melbourne 80-55 at the Adelaide Oval, Round 3, 2015.
After a thrashing in wet conditions against the Swans in Sydney, the Demons had the bye week to regather themselves and prepare for the high flying Crows. Bernie Vince has been outstanding for the Demons down back since moving from the Crows and is in contention for the All-Australian team. Max Gawn versus Sam Jacobs will be fun to watch.
Adelaide are one of the form sides in the competition and this week they will play their first game at the MCG in 2016. Rory Sloane is enjoying life without Dangerfield, last week against the Roos he had 30+ disposals and 13 tackles.
Prediction: The Crows are should win this by around 4 goals. Adelaide by 24
Best Bet: Adelaide -20.5 ($1.92)
