Bet for Free previews the two best games of AFL Round 12, 2017 and we provide our best bets for each game.
Sydney Swans vs Western Bulldogs
Sydney return from the bye after a 6 point loss against the Hawks at the SCG. They’re 16th on the ladder and need a win against the Bulldogs to have any chance of finals action. The Swans have been hard to pick at home this season with a 1-4 at the SCG.
The Western Bulldogs also had the bye last week after thrashing the Saints at Etihad by 40 points. They’ve won the past two at the SCG and the previous four meetings against the Swans, including the Grand Final last year.
The Swans could regain Kieren Jack, Jarrad McVeigh and Sam Naismith for this match. Sam Reid and Jake Lloyd both suffered concussion in the Hawks match but they should be right.
The Bulldogs are without Robert Murphy and Clay Smith for a few weeks.
Last 3 meetings:
Round 2, 31 Mar 2017
Western Bulldogs defeat Sydney 110-87
Grand Final, 1 Oct 2016
Sydney defeated by Western Bulldogs 67-89
Round 15, 2 Jul 2016
Sydney defeated by Western Bulldogs 79-83
The Bulldogs have won the last 2 at the SCG by 4 points so these teams play close matches at the venue. We would suggest a 1-39 margin for either team as they both pride themselves on defence.
The Bulldogs kicked 110 points against the Swans which was their second highest total of the season. The Swans average more goals per game (13 to 12) and Lance Franklin kicked 9 goals in the past two games.
The Swans are favourites at William Hill which seems strange as they sit third last on the ladder. The Bulldogs have the wood over Sydney lately and should win this in a 1-39 margin.
Melbourne Demons vs Collingwood Magpies
The Demons come off the bye with a crucial match against the Magpies on Monday. They defeated the Suns by 35 points before the bye.
Collingwood have won three in a row and their top-eight chances are alive. They defeated the Dockers in Perth last Sunday but have a number of injury concerns from the victory. The Monday match will help them recover from the Perth trip.
Christian Salem is back from suspension and Jesse Hogan is a chance to return.
Jamie Elliott suffered an injury against the Dockers and Daniel Wells also picked up another calf issue. Tyson Goldsack and Levi Greenwood are also in doubt. In good news, Ben Reid and Travis Varcoe are expected back for this one.
Last 3 meetings:
Round 12, 2016
Melbourne defeats Collingwood 104-58
Round 4, 2016
Collingwood defeated by Melbourne 67-102
Round 18, 2015
Collingwood defeated by Melbourne 54-91
The Demons have dominated the last three clashes with an average winning margin of 39 points.
Melbourne have kicked 100+ points in the last two meetings. While Collingwood have struggled in front of goals with scores of 58 and 67.
The Demons are 3-0 against the Magpies since 2015. Jamie Elliott is a huge loss for the Magpies forward line and their attack will be less efficient as a result. We’re backing the Demons to win by 8.5 points.
