2016 Wimbledon Tennis Preview and Tips
Grand Slam Tennis in 2016 continues as Bet for Free previews the 2016 Wimbledon tennis grass tournament. We include the best value betting tips and preview the Men’s Singles draw and Ladies’ Singles draw.
Wimbledon Men’s Singles
In the men’s draw world number 1, Novak Djokovic is aiming for a third straight Wimbledon title. Roger Federer returns after missing the French Open with injury. He aims for a record number of eight Wimbledon titles.
Spain champion Rafeal Nadal has been ruled out with injury. Andy Murray will aim to beat Djokovic for his second title after 2016 defeats to Djokovic in both the Australian Open and French Open.
Predicted Winner: Novak Djokovic
It’s hard to go past Novak Djokovic at the price of $1.70 which is for good reason. Djokovic is aiming for his third straight Wimbledon crown in 2016. Having already defeated Murray in the first two grand slams of the year, Djokovic should make the final and his most likely opponent will be Murray again. Murray ($4.00) has reached the Wimbledon final twice since 2012 and is the next best bet to knock Djokovic off this year.
Best Value Bet: Milos Raonic
The big serving Canadian has a good record at Wimbledon having reached the semi final in 2014. In 2016 he has shown promising form when he made the semi final of the Australian Open. Only to be defeated by Andy Murray in a 5 set match. At the price of ($13.00), Raonic should make at least the semi finals.
Others to consider: Roger Federer $9.00 (88.76% win rate, 7 Wimbledon Titles), Nick Kyrgios $19.00 (78% win rate at Wimbledon) and Stan Wawrinka $19.00 (2 straight QF appearances)
Watch out for: Juan Martin del Potro
Juan Martin del Potro ($51.00) returns to the Grand Slam tour after a three year layoff with a badly injured wrist. In 2013, Del Potro came within a set against Djokovic of reaching the Wimbledon final. He will be someone to watch throughout the men’s tournament.
Wimbledon Ladies’ Singles
With the suspension of Maria Sharapova, the Wimbledon Ladies’ singles draw looks to open up in 2016 as Serena Williams aims for her 7th Wimbledon title. Caroline Wozniacki will return after missing the French Open with an ankle injury.
Predicted Winner: Serena Williams
At $2.60 with Luxbet, Serena Williams offers value in the always unpredictable ladies’ singles draw. Williams has been impressive at Wimbledon throughout her career with a 79-10 record since debuting in 1998. She has won the tournament 6 times and lost only twice to Maria Sharapova in 2004 and sister Venus in 2008. Serena has also won her past 4 finals at Wimbledon and she will be hard to defeat again in 2016.
Best Value Bet: Garbine Muguruza
Garbiñe Muguruza ($6.50) offers the best value apart from Serena Williams. Muguruza won her last tournament at the French Open and was runner-up in 2015 to Williams. Muguruza comes into this year’s tournament as the number 2 seed and could upset Serena if the two matchup again in the final.
Others to consider: Petra Kvitová $8.00 (28–6 record at Wimbledon and Winner in 2011 and 2014) and Eugenie Bouchard $34.00 (73% win rate and reached final in 2014).
Watch out for: Sam Stosur
In the 2016 French Open, Sam Stosur ($101.00) reached the semi-finals but lost to Muguruza in straight sets. It was a great sign for Stosur who has struggled to get past the final 16 recently. Also in Stosur’s favour at Wimbledon is she has the power to match it with the top 10 best women players. If she keeps up her momentum from the French, she could reach the semi-final or more.
